We are pleased to announce that FOBA has received a $2,000 grant from the Massachusetts Animal Coalition through its “I’m Animal Friendly” license plate program. This program directly benefits animals and organizations across the state, funding vital spay and neuter services for cats, dogs, and rabbits. Thousands of animals have been spayed or neutered as a result of the license plate program. Grants from the Massachusetts Animal Coalition to animal welfare organizations totaled $160,000 in 2012 and their largest grant to an individual organization in 2011 was $20,000.

Want to see larger grants? It’s easy to help. The more plates that are sold, the more funds that are available for cats and dogs! Order your “I’m Animal Friendly” license plates online. No need to go to the RMV, use this link to order a tax-deductible plate. It’s a great way to help the animals and to let others know how much you care. Your entire $40 special plate fee supports this statewide spay/neuter program.

“I’m Animal Friendly” license plates really matter! Thank you, Massachusetts Animal Coalition, for your generous license plate grants.

FOBA on Public Access TV

We are so fortunate to have a great animal rights activist, Kim Hyder, host these informative and inspiring shows. With special guests and friends, sometimes of the four-legged, furry variety!

Watch BevCam for FOBA Shows, which are usually aired at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, 6 p.m. on Fridays, and 1 p.m. on Sundays on Channel 10 in Beverly. Check www.bevcam.org schedule for updates.

Kim Hyder received the Humane-atarian Award from the Massachusetts School of Law on Animal Rights Day in 2011. The award is given to individuals who have done something outstanding for animals. We are very proud of Kim.

Want to see your pet’s photo in our 2013 Calendar?

We can’t promise to use every photo received, but we will do our best! Please send your favorite digital pet photos to bhannable@gmail.com. For best quality, it is recommended that photos be approximately 1024 pixels (width) X 762 pixels (height) with a resolution of 100. If you are uncertain about your photos, submit them and we will let you know if they will work. Photos may also be mailed to FOBA at PO Box 3378, Beverly, MA 01915, but we cannot accept responsibility for their safe return. Copies or scans do not usually come out as well as digital photos, but again, we will try our best. Deadline for photo submissions is September 1, 2012.

Fostering Pets for Adoption

Ann Picariello joined FOBA in 2011 and we are delighted to have her. She recently wrote this inspiring article about her first fostering experience. Thanks, Ann! We hope that many others will be willing to give fostering a try. We are always in great need of foster homes! FOBA will pay expenses to cover food and litter for fostered cats and kittens.

From Ann’s article,

All of my life I have been a dog person. Cats had never appealed to me; I always thought they were distant and cold. My viewpoint changed a few months ago when I took in a stray mother cat and her three kittens…

Update: Fur Ball 2011

The Fur Ball held at the ICC on September 24th was a great success. We had a wonderful turnout, delicious food, a terrific band (“Don’t Call Me Shirley”) and very attractive raffle items. We want to thank everyone who helped with this event, including our members and all the local businesses who generously donated items for the raffles. Paul Guanci of Casual Catering and Super Sub provided much of the food, some of which was donated, and that was also greatly appreciated. This event just keeps getting better and better each year!
